Polishing Concrete, What is it exactly?
Polishing simply is grinding your concrete with diamond disc
pads or resin base disc pads. We use heavy duty rotary type
buffing machine with these pads, progressively using finer
and finer grit discs to get the desired smoothness and shine
(this is like sanding wood with different "grits"
of sandpaper to achieve the desired smooth texture to the
wood). First using a coarse diamond disc pad, which are coarse
enough to remove minor blemishes such as pits, stains or light
coatings from the floor. This prepares the floor for a final
smoothing. All depending on the original condition of the
concrete, this is generally a 3 step process. We continue to
the next step using a finer grit diamond disc pad, again using
heavy duty rotary type buffing machine. Our technicians use
progressively finer grits of polishing disks in a process
called lapping, for example a extremely high shine polishing
will use a final grit of 1500 or finer; until the concrete
floor has the required shine. The decision of the homeowner
on the type of shine will determine the progression of the
grit of the discs used.
Experienced, our technicians know when to switch to the next
finer grit by the look of the surface and the amount being
removed. Our Technicians will also polish with a concrete
densifier which will impregnating hardeners and grinding bring
the best shine out of your concrete. Polished Concrete give
the home owner a wide range of colors and design options,
Excellent longevity and durability with ease of maintenance.
It is also a Environmentally safe material, Eco friendly as
it emits not VOC's into one's environment, is not likely to
be vulnerable to moisture damage, will be able to radiate
heat and store solar energy and will not harbor mold or mildew
or other allergens such as dust mites, making this a great
alternative for a "Green" home.
